What is advanced nutritional medicine?

It involves clinical assessment of complex biological systems (e.g. microbiome-gut-immune-brain mechanisms) and advanced knowledge in clinical nutrition... to inform personalised, evidence-based diets.  It is not about single issue, fragmented solutions based on generalised treatment protocols.

Clinical Specialties

All treatments address underlying gut health problems, adverse food reactions, nutrient deficiencies, dysfunctional biochemical pathways, chronic inflammation processes, drug-nutrient interactions, toxicities, feeding difficulties and growth needs.

Hello, I'm Michael

As a Senior Clinical Dietitian & Biochemist, I develop advanced clinical nutrition therapies, particularly where there are complex interacting mechanisms between the gut, brain, metabolic and immune systems.

My clients at the Gastroenterology Nutrition & Digestive Health Clinic often have complex gut health conditions that are correlated with other problematic medical issues (e.g. brain, metabolic and immune systems).

I collaborate extensively with GPs, gastroenterologists, immunologists, paediatricians, microbiologists, diagnostic labs, pharmacists and suppliers of clinical nutrition products.

Clinical Nutrition Services

Nutrition Status Assessments

A detailed review of clinical signs & symptoms, daily food journals, nutrient intake, toxin exposure, medical history, diagnosis & medications-in-use to pinpoint adverse food reactions, micronutrient deficiencies, nutrient requirements.. and more.

Nutrition Lab Diagnostics

Urine, blood, stool and saliva tests are sometimes required to analyse biochemical markers of nutrient status, genetic factors affecting biochemistry pathways, gut dysbiosis, inflammation, endocrine balance, immune dysregulation & toxins.

Evidence-Based Clinical Diets

Protocols for adverse food reactions, nutrient deficiencies, problematic biochemical pathways, healthy growth, gut dysbiosis, IBS, constipation, diarrhoea, nutrition support for recurrent infections, chronic inflammation, oxidative stress and more.

Tube Feeding Protocols

Experienced with hospital and home tube feeding protocols for people with neurological and/or gut disorders. Calculations for all essential requirements, advice on formulas, support for growth phases, high needs and texture-modified diets.

Vitamins, Minerals & Phytonutrients

Specialist advice on supplements for deficiencies, biochemical dysfunctions and faltering growth.  Will calculate nutrient doses, combinations, chemical forms and duration based on full clinical assessment, evidence-base and safety. Prescriptions.

Probiotics & Functional Foods

Evidence-based advice on functional foods and probiotics that have important therapeutic uses for digestive health issues (e.g. dysbiosis, leaky gut, nutrient absorption & utilisation), inflammation, immune dysregulation and neuro/brain biochemistry.

Drug-Nutrient Interactions

There are many unhelpful interactions between drugs and nutrients, inside the gut, liver and other tissues around the body. They can reduce medication effectiveness, create nutrient deficiencies or toxicities that affect neuro/brain biochemistry. Get assessed.

Toxins & Clinical Nutrition Therapy

Toxins come from agri-chemicals (fresh foods), additives (processed foods), plastics (hormone disruptors), carpets, mould, bites, fumes (roads) & elsewhere. Nutrition therapy can support some detox pathways & improve brain chemistry.
